Zac Efron Embraces His High School Musical Legacy on The Kelly Clarkson Show

Reflecting on High School Musical with Co-Stars

Zac Efron, known for his role in High School Musical, appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Thursday, December 21. During the show, he, along with his The Iron Claw co-stars, reminisced about a touching homage paid to Efron while on set.

Stanley Simons, portraying Mike Von Erich (Efron’s character’s brother in The Iron Claw), shared with Clarkson a memorable moment from the shoot. Simons said, “I felt it was essential to honor that era, especially for those who grew up with it. While I was preparing for a scene and practicing music, I decided to learn ‘Breaking Free’ and performed it for Zac.”

Efron appreciated the gesture, expressing to the show’s host that the tribute was well-received. He seemed touched by the effort.

Clarkson questioned Efron about whether he ever gets weary of references to his High School Musical days. Efron responded with warmth, indicating that the affection people show for him and the High School Musical series is deeply meaningful. “It brings me great joy,” he commented. “Just recently, at an event in Hollywood where I received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, I saw numerous Wildcat jerseys. Our fans are as enthusiastic as ever. It’s incredible to see that our young fans have grown, and now even 40-year-olds are showing their support. I absolutely adore it.”

During his Walk of Fame speech, Efron gave a nod to the Wildcats and shared that the High School Musical songs often cross his mind. “These songs are a regular part of my day – I find myself singing them in the shower,” he mentioned, with a particular fondness for “Breaking Free” and “We’re All in This Together.”

The interaction between Efron and Simons, discussing the High School Musical “Breaking Free” tribute, can be seen in the linked video.
