Shawn W. Phelps has built his career around financial guidance for individuals, families and businesses through different stages of life. His professional foundation began with a strong academic focus in business, political science and personal finance. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Ashland University with a Bachelor of Business Administration and Political Science before earning an MBA concentrated in personal Finance from Ashland, where he finished Summa Cum Laude. He later completed a Trust and Estate Planning degree at Bowling Green University, where he also served as an instructor.
Phelps began providing banking assistance to families and small businesses in central Ohio in 1997, developing experience within the financial services field and local community. He later managed a local Trust Department before joining Northwestern Mutual in 2010. Through River Tree Wealth, he has continued working with business owners, high net worth families and members of his community, while serving as a leader within Northwestern Mutual’s Private Client Group nationally. His work reflects a focus on financial guidance across life’s seasons, with experience spanning banking, trust, estate planning and broader financial services. This background has given him exposure to financial considerations that can arise as families and businesses plan, grow, transition and prepare for changing circumstances. His approach is informed by practical realities surrounding personal planning, family considerations, business ownership and long-term wealth, with experience developed across a range of financial circumstances and planning needs across different stages of life.
