Comedian Matt Rife Faces Backlash Over Plastic Surgery Claims and Controversial Jokes
Matt Rife, a 28-year-old comedian, found himself in the midst of controversy following a post by Dr. Benjamin Caughlin, a plastic surgeon. On November 27, Dr. Caughlin posted a video on Instagram, joking about creating “the greatest jawline ever seen” for a patient who was subsequently canceled. This led to speculation among fans that he was referring to Rife, especially considering the comedian’s recent backlash and notable jawline.
Responding to these rumors on November 28, Rife addressed Dr. Caughlin directly, stating, “Lying about medical history is illegal, just FYI.” This comment sparked various reactions from followers, with some finding it surprising that Rife would reveal himself under such a vague post, while others saw it as him inadvertently admitting to the surgery.
Earlier in July, Rife had denied undergoing any plastic surgery. In a YouTube video for Access Hollywood, where he was boxing with Mario Lopez, he labeled the plastic surgery rumors as the “funniest lie” he had ever heard about himself. Rife attributed his changed appearance to late puberty, dismissing any suggestions of cosmetic procedures like cheek fillers, lip enhancements, or jawline surgery.
Adding to the controversy, Rife recently faced backlash for his jokes in his first-ever Netflix comedy special, “Natural Selection.” He opened the show with a domestic violence joke and also made remarks about a former classmate with special needs. In response to the criticism, Rife’s November 20 Instagram Story featured a sarcastic apology, directing offended followers to a special needs helmet shopping page.
