Mariah Carey’s Iconic Holiday Hit Tops Billboard Hot 100 Once More

Mariah Carey’s timeless holiday hit, “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” has once again climbed to the pinnacle of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Marking its 13th week at the summit, the song continues to be a seasonal favorite.

The track, a highlight from Carey’s 1994 album “Merry Christmas,” has seen a resurgence in popularity in recent years, particularly with the advent of streaming services. Its initial foray into the Hot 100’s top 10 occurred in December 2017, with its subsequent rise to the top five in the following holiday season. It has since dominated the chart during the holiday periods of 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.

Reflecting on the song’s enduring impact, Carey expressed her astonishment and gratitude in 2021, acknowledging the global love for this festive anthem.

The song’s return to number one follows Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” which recently led the chart, achieving its own milestone 65 years post-release.

Additionally, other classic holiday tunes have made significant moves on the Hot 100, with The Ronettes’ “Sleigh Ride” and Dean Martin’s “Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow!” both re-entering the top 10.

The Hot 100 chart amalgamates streaming data, radio airplay, and sales figures. The chart’s data for the week ending December 23, 2023, reflects the song’s broad appeal across these metrics.

Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” witnessed a notable increase in streaming numbers, aided by the recent release of its “Festive Lambs Edition” video. The track accumulated 42.2 million streams, alongside 26.1 million radio airplay impressions, and 8,000 downloads – the latter boosted by promotional pricing on iTunes.

Carey also continued her “Merry Christmas One and All!” tour, which included a performance at New York’s iconic Madison Square Garden on December 9.

Setting Records on the Hot 100

This year’s success of “All I Want for Christmas Is You” extends its record as the holiday song with the most weeks at number one on the Hot 100. Additionally, it’s the first song to dominate the chart across five different holiday seasons, surpassing other notable tracks like Chubby Checker’s “The Twist.”

Moreover, the song’s ascent to number one for the 63rd week ties it with Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves” for the most delayed top spot in the chart’s history.

Mariah Carey’s Chart-Topping Legacy

Carey’s achievement with “All I Want for Christmas Is You” cements her position as an artist with multiple long-running number one hits. She shares this distinction with Boyz II Men, with whom she collaborated on the record-breaking “One Sweet Day.”

Her overall dominance on the Hot 100 is unparalleled, with 92 cumulative weeks at number one, a feat unmatched by any other artist.

Alongside topping the Hot 100, Carey’s festive anthem has also reclaimed the number one spot on the Holiday 100 chart, marking its 59th week at the top.

The Hot 100 top 10 also features a mix of other holiday classics and contemporary hits, with Dean Martin’s “Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow!” rounding out the top 10.
