Adele’s Journey from Borderline Alcoholism to Sobriety

Adele’s Revelation about Her Past Relationship with Alcohol

Adele, the renowned singer, has publicly disclosed that she has quit drinking alcohol after acknowledging an unhealthy relationship with it during her 20s. She made this revelation during a recent performance in Las Vegas, stating that she had stopped consuming alcohol around three and a half months ago. Adele humorously remarked that life without alcohol is “boring” and admitted to being “borderline alcoholic” for a significant portion of her 20s. She also expressed that she misses it.

Adele has been open over the years about her struggles with alcohol, which she partly attributes to the loss of her estranged father, Mark Evans, in May 2021. Evans had battled alcohol addiction for most of his life. Adele also mentioned that she had cut out caffeine from her life. During her performance, she told an audience member enjoying a whiskey sour that she was “very, very jealous.”

The singer has also touched upon her relationship with alcohol in her music, specifically in her 2021 song “I Drink Wine.” After releasing her album “30” in November 2021, which includes this song, Adele revealed that she decided to quit alcohol following her divorce from Simon Konecki and excessive drinking during the COVID-19 pandemic. She mentioned that sobriety helped her get to know herself better. Initially, she joked that she “kept the alcohol industry alive” during her divorce, but later realized the need for personal growth and quit drinking.

Earlier this year, during another performance in Las Vegas, Adele shared that her drinking had escalated during the peak of the pandemic. She recalled being four bottles of wine in by 11 a.m. during the COVID lockdown. She also mentioned that everyone was essentially at home and drunk during that period.
