In light of recent allegations against Russell Brand, comments made by his ex-wife Katy Perry have resurfaced, shedding new light on the dynamics of their relationship. Perry, who is 38 years old, had previously described Brand, 48, as a “controlling” individual during an interview with Vogue in 2013. She revealed that while Brand initially sought an equal partner, he later found it challenging to handle the “equalness” in their relationship. Perry expressed that Brand was uncomfortable with her being in a position of authority during their tours, which she found both hurtful and controlling.
Perry also hinted at undisclosed reasons for their separation in 2011, stating that she had discovered the “real truth,” which she keeps securely stored for future reference. She emphasized that the end of their marriage was not her fault and that she had moved on from the experience.
The couple had a whirlwind romance that began in 2009 and culminated in their marriage in October 2010. However, their union was short-lived, lasting only 14 months. Brand communicated his decision to divorce Perry via text message, according to the same Vogue interview.
Recently, a British newspaper, The Times, published a report where four women accused Brand of sexual assault between the years 2006 and 2013. One of the accusers was 16 years old at the time of her encounter with Brand, who was then in his 30s. She claimed that Brand exhibited grooming behavior towards her.
In a preemptive move, Brand denied these allegations in a video shared on social media. He stated that he had received disturbing letters from mainstream media outlets listing a series of attacks against him, which he vehemently refuted. Brand also mentioned that during his time of promiscuity, all his relationships were consensual. He questioned if there was an ulterior motive behind these allegations.
Brand, who has been married to Laura Gallacher since 2017, is a father to two daughters and is expecting a third child.
