Canyon of the Dead made a huge splash at the Cannes Film Festival, with a glamorous event at the Mondrian Hotel, hosted by US-based distributor Synkronized. The celebration was the talk of the festival, filled with stars and industry leaders.

The party featured key cast members, including BAFTA winner Abigail Lawrie and Hanako Footman from The Crown. However, the spotlight was on the film’s director, Coerte Voorhees, known for his careful and creative approach to filmmaking. He was joined by producers from First Line Films, and the event buzzed with excitement about his work.

Set in the 1920s, Canyon of the Dead tells the story of Ann Axtell Morris, North America’s first female archaeologist, played by Abigail Lawrie. The film explores her work with the Navajo people and the ancient Anasazi civilization. The story includes exciting elements like flash floods and flights with Charles and Anne Lindbergh.

Directed by Coerte Voorhees, who also worked on The First Line (Netflix), the film features a strong cast including Tom Felton (Harry Potter), Ewen Bremner, Wes Studi, Tatanka Means, Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, Finn Jones, and Abigail Breslin. Voorhees’ direction brings a deep and authentic touch to the historical tale.

Jonathan Nez, former President of the Navajo Nation, praised the film for its cultural respect and its positive impact on the Navajo community. Festival attendees echoed his sentiments, appreciating the film’s respectful depiction of Navajo lands and traditions.

Synkronized CEO Alex Cohen shared his excitement, saying, “It’s wonderful to see rare stories told with integrity. Canyon of the Dead is set for a big theatrical release, and tonight’s event confirms our excitement.”
