Viewers are left on the edge of their seats as 9-1-1’s midseason premiere left beloved character Evan Buckley’s life hanging by a thread.
The episode, fittingly called “In a Flash,” started with a dry thunderstorm rolling into Los Angeles, resulting in a series of emergencies for the 118 to deal with. Stark’s Buck was struck by lightning, and his fellow first responders tried to revive him. The episode ended on a suspenseful note when Buck stopped breathing:
An Unexpected Turn of Events
In an interview, Oliver Stark says this sudden turn of events is something that he’s proud to take on. He has been on the show since its premiere in 2018.
Stark said it was Kristen Reidel who told him about it and how they’ve been working towards it for a while now. The actor said what he felt was almost a sense of pride as his character is one that they know go people will care about if they go down that road with him. Stark was excited and ready to let the story unfold.
The show will surely be making some bold choices in the future that will change the way viewers see the show. It will be interesting to see how these changes affect not only Buck but also the other characters in the show.
Stark hinted that Eddie Diaz. His character’s longtime best friend is one who is going to be truly affected by the tragedy.
The next episodes will show how Eddie breaks out from his shell, emotion-wise. Eddie has a somewhat stoic character and is typically in control of his emotions. Now it will be very refreshing to see how a usually composed character shows a more emotional side of him.
Buddie No More?
Buck and Eddie’s friendship has been growing since the latter joined the regular cast in season 2. Though they “bumped heads” initially, Tim Minear, the show’s co-creator and showrunner, made it clear to Start that the tension between the two won’t be for very long. And true enough, the two characters soon move past that negative dynamic and become really good friends.
The relationship between Buck and Eddie or “Buddie” to their avid fans— has been a favorite among viewers. According to Stark, the reason why they are so popular among fans is because of their fun and lively vibes, as well as their deep understanding of one another.
Eddie is going to have a hard time coming to terms with what happened to Buck. Despite this, 9-1-1 will still be able to incorporate some lightheartedness into the show, even when the plot gets dark. This is something that Stark appreciates, as it is one of the show’s best qualities.
Although his character’s future on the show is still pretty much up in the air, there are some 118 members Star would love to have more screen time with, including Aisha Hinds, who plays Hen.
