Two years after opening its doors, Dough Boy Pizza has established itself as a notable player in Atlanta’s fast-casual dining scene—largely due to the partnership between radio personality Ryan Cameron and chef and entrepreneur Erica Barrett.

Located in The Gallery at South DeKalb at 2801 Candler Road, the Decatur hotspot first opened on February 12, 2023, and has attracted a steady stream of pizza enthusiasts since then. For Cameron, host of Majic 107.5/97.5 and a recognized figure in Atlanta culture, Dough Boy Pizza marked his foray into the restaurant industry. However, this wasn’t just a business venture—it was a way to introduce smart, quick, and flavorful food to a community close to his heart.

Dough Boy Pizza was originally founded by Chef Barrett in Birmingham, Alabama, and the name draws inspiration from Ice Cube’s character “Doughboy” in the 1991 film Boyz n the Hood—a cultural reference that ties the restaurant to Black cinema and identity.

What continues to distinguish Dough Boy Pizza is its tech-forward, ventless kitchen model. Even after two years, the concept still feels like it’s ahead of its time. The restaurant eliminates the need for traditional cashiers and vent hoods by operating with self-ordering kiosks and a streamlined, eco-friendly setup. Customers can walk in, place their order on a digital screen, and receive their Neapolitan-style pizza in just a few minutes—hot, fresh, and made to order.

Ryan Cameron recognized he was investing in more than just a pizza shop—he was stepping into a next-level dining experience. “What won me over was how innovative the whole concept is,” Cameron said. “There are no registers, no hoods, just good food and smart tech. It’s how fast food should be.”

Dough Boy Pizza’s menu remains one of its biggest draws. The restaurant is known for its thin-crust Neapolitan-style pies, served with a mix of classic and creative toppings. From traditional tomato sauce and mozzarella to unique flavor combinations that reflect Southern tastes, there’s something for everyone. Dough Boy also offers gluten-free crusts and vegan options, including a vegan crust imported from Italy—making it a great option for diners with dietary preferences or restrictions.

The South DeKalb location was a deliberate choice for Cameron, who grew up in the area and wanted to bring a quality food experience to a neighborhood that has supported his long-running media career. “This is more than a business. This is personal,” he said. “South DeKalb deserves something fresh, something cool, and something made with intention.”

As the official voice of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Cameron has also suggested the possibility of expanding the concept to the airport. Conversations about a potential airport location have continued over the past two years, and fans are hopeful that Dough Boy Pizza could one day serve travelers on the go.

With two years behind it, Dough Boy Pizza has demonstrated that it’s more than just a celebrity-backed concept—it’s a growing, community-focused business that blends taste, innovation, and culture. As Ryan Cameron continues to expand his entrepreneurial ventures, Dough Boy Pizza stands as an example of what can happen when creativity meets culture and a love for pizza.
