Is ‘The Idol’ Getting a Season 2?

Sam Levinson’s newest show, The Idol, premiered on June 4, 2023, after much anticipation and rumor around its debut date. The Idol had M-A-J-O-R star power behind it and was co-created and starred in by Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye alongside Lily-Rose Depp, Dan Levy, Hari Nef, Troye Sivan, and BLACKPINK’s Jennie.

The Idol fans are now asking questions like, “When is season 2 coming out, if at all?” because the season finale has long since passed. The season finale, like the show overall, sparked controversy in its own way after premiering earlier than anticipated. We’re here. Let’s get started.

First of all, is The Idol actually getting a season 2?

We’re sorry to break the bad news to any of Jocelyn’s “angels,” but an HBO representative informed Page Six that The Idol *will not* be returning for a second season after all.

“The Idol was one of HBO’s most provocative original programs, and we’re pleased by the strong audience response,” a representative for the network told the site. “HBO, the writers, the producers, and we have decided not to go on with a second season after much thinking and consideration. We appreciate the artists, actors, and crew for their fantastic effort.

“Audiences look for boundary-pushing content in HBO original programming, and The Idol certainly delivered on that front,” they continued. It became ingrained in the zeitgeist and was one of the most talked-about shows of the summer.

However, it wasn’t enough for the divisive show to be given the go-ahead for a second season. Since The Idol was initially advertised as a limited series, it is likely that there were no editorial plans to extend the plot past season 1’s five episodes. The program had some, um, not-so-great reviews, which is another aspect (and maybe the least encouraging) that determined whether it would be returning. HBO probably waited to decide on a season to see how audiences responded to it (and whether there were enough viewers).

The Idol currently only has a 19 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and several reviews have remarked on how hard the program tries to be shocking. A comment like this in Rolling Stone described it as “way, way worse than you’d have anticipated,” and a one like this in Vogue questioned whether it was “a misfire of high-budget misogyny.” A big yikes.

When would The Idol season 2 have come out?

We put our mathematical prowess to the test to determine when season 2 may have potentially premiered if it had been approved.

The Weeknd had to leave to perform at Coachella and launch his After Hours Til Dawn Tour, while director/executive producer Amy Seimetz quit the project owing to creative differences, which necessitated rewrites and reshoots for Season 1. Season 1 began filming way back in November 2021.

From the commencement of production until the first episode was shown, it took more than a year and a half in total. If season 2’s cast and crew had started filming soon after season 1 ended and it had followed a similar schedule, we might have been looking at a possible release date of the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025. the more you understand!

The fall of The Idol

There was excitement when Sam Levinson, the brains of Euphoria, initially revealed The Idol.

The Weeknd, who also served as the show’s co-creator, plays the mysterious nightclub boss Tedros, who becomes connected with Jocelyn, a popstar played by Lily-Rose.

But as rumors of production issues and a “toxic atmosphere” on set surfaced, the anticipation soured.

At a pre-release press conference where Levinson promised reporters that The Idol will be the biggest show of the summer, the cast was compelled to defend the program.

That forecast proved to be a touch overly optimistic. When it finally debuted, the show received a largely negative reception.

It was criticized for being “the worst program ever made,” “toe-curlingly naff,” and having vapid characters.

On the review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 19% critic rating at the moment.

Concerns raised over pressure and scrutiny in K-Pop industry after Moonbin’s death

The sudden death of K-pop star Moonbin has left fans around the world shocked and saddened. The 25-year-old singer, actor and model was a member of popular boy band Astro and his death came in the middle of a world tour with bandmate Sanha.

South Korean authorities have stated that his death appears to have been a suicide, despite the fact that the precise cause of his death is still under investigation.

The latest tragedy to affect South Korea’s entertainment sector, notably the K-pop genre, is Moonbin’s passing. Actress Yoo Joo-eun passed away last year at the age of 27, while actress Jung Chae-yull was discovered dead in her home earlier this month at the age of 26.

Concerns have been raised regarding the intense pressure and scrutiny experienced by young performers in the South Korean entertainment industry as a result of these sudden losses.

K-pop has exploded in fame lately, with acts like BTS making uncommon global progress. However, beneath the industry’s glitz and glamor is a brutal environment in which performers are pushed to their limits.

In order to improve their abilities, trainees as young as 10 years old must put up with demanding schedules and fierce competition. After entering the field, they are subjected to unrelenting criticism and pressure to uphold their reputation.

This pressure can have devastating effects, especially for young performers who are still figuring out how to deal with the pressures of fame and success. Several K-pop stars have spoken out about the toll that constant scrutiny and criticism can take on their well-being. Mental health issues like depression and anxiety are common.

Moonbin Death

In addition, the industry has a history of rampant abuse, with some performers experiencing physical and emotional exploitation at the hands of their managers or agencies.

The loss of Moonbin and other young performers has reignited a conversation about the need for change within the South Korean entertainment industry. Fans and industry insiders alike are calling for better support systems for performers, including mental health resources and stronger protections against abuse and exploitation.

The Korean government has also taken steps to address the issue, with legislation passed last year that aims to provide better working conditions and protections for K-pop performers.

While the industry has a long way to go, the conversation around Moonbin’s death is an important step towards creating a safer and more supportive environment for young performers. As fans mourn his passing, they are also calling for change, hoping to ensure that tragedies like this are not repeated in the future.

While South Korea has the highest rate of youth suicide among developed countries, its overall suicide rate has been falling, but the number of suicides among those in their 20s is on the rise.

Being a celebrity in South Korea comes with an even higher level of pressure than in other parts of the world. The entertainment industry is a highly popular career choice for young Koreans, and the competition is fierce from the beginning. To become a K-pop star, most people have to undergo a grueling training period, which can last for years and often means they lose connections with their friends and peers.

K-Pop Trainees

The massive pressure that Korean celebrities face is largely caused by the control exerted by their agencies and the intense scrutiny from their fans. After going through grueling rounds of selection, only a handful of trainees are able to debut in an industry that is already saturated with stars.

New stars used to be tied into so-called slave contracts, long exclusive deals with little control of their schedule or financial reward. Although some K-pop stars have won cases freeing them from unreasonable contracts in recent years, the relationship between the two parties has not fundamentally changed.

Enthusiasm from fans, amplified by the country’s extremely active social media, can be a double-edged sword. Fans pay attention to every move and comment on everything from their hair to their behavior. Public figures in South Korea are subjected to scrutiny not only by their fans but also by the entire society. In a nation where inequality has been a frequent topic of discussion, being a celebrity comes with elevated expectations from the public.

South Korea has a very strict moral standard for celebrities compared to other countries. If a star behaves only slightly differently from what’s perceived as ‘decent’, the public would attack them. Due to the strong collectivist culture in South Korea, celebrities find it difficult to ignore the high social pressure and criticism they face.

While Moonbin’s death is still being investigated, it’s the latest in a string of sudden young celebrity deaths to hit the South Korean entertainment industry. Moonbin’s death has brought fresh attention to the fiercely competitive environment of the South Korean entertainment industry. South Korea must take steps to address the pressures that its celebrities face and protect their mental health.

The industry needs to look at ways to make the process less stressful and more supportive for those trying to make it to the top. Ultimately, it’s important to recognize that celebrities are human beings with feelings and vulnerabilities, and it’s crucial to provide them with the support they need to thrive both personally and professionally.

How They Put Pressure on Artists

Being a celebrity in South Korea means facing much higher pressure compared to pop stars in North America or Europe. To become a K-pop star, most people need to go through a grueling training period that could last for years. Following a series of rigorous selection processes, only a few trainees are able to successfully debut on stage.

The immense pressure that Korean stars experience is largely due to the control exerted by their agencies and the culture of obsessive fandom. K-pop stars have more control now than in the past, but things have not necessarily improved. Enthusiasm from fans, amplified by the country’s extremely active social media, could be a double-edged sword.

After their debut, public figures in Korea are subject to scrutiny not only from their fans but from society as a whole. This heightened visibility comes with increased expectations from the public.

Celebrities with mental health issues face additional burdens. The K-pop industry is conscious of the impact that mental health issues have on its stars, and some idols have been taking extended periods of time off to focus on their wellbeing. Multiple agencies have introduced therapy sessions for trainees and celebrities.

However, some do not see a momentum of fundamental change coming soon. The super fans are so obsessed with these idols that it seems like a vicious cycle of being placed under a microscope to perform at a high level.

The health benefits of friendship

It is widely accepted that romantic relationships can improve your health and even help you live longer. But, does friendship provide the same advantages?

Benny Shakes must temper his enthusiasm with his friends. “I’m always canceling friend dates,” he admits.

He is a high-energy traveling stand-up comedian based in Nottingham, UK. Yet, he suffers from mental health concerns and cerebral palsy, making it “difficult to develop friendships due to my disability.”

Fortunately, his friends and wife recognize his need for regular isolation. Friends assist him in a variety of ways, from reminding him to take his meds to supporting him during times of mental illness.

Yet assistance is reciprocal. During the Covid-19 pandemic, for example, he and his friend Mark Nicholas put up a group chat with other disabled comedians and artists.

While Shakes’ life experiences are unusual, he is far from alone in experiencing the numerous therapeutic benefits of friendship. Friendships have demonstrable benefits for our minds and bodies, from improved moods to better cardiovascular health – even if they have historically been viewed as less valuable than romantic and family ties.

Friendship has numerous benefits

Lydia Denworth, a science writer who produced a book about the science of friendship, is fascinated by how social isolation impacts your immune system. When you’re lonely, your white blood cells shift their behavior, causing greater inflammation and reduced immune response.

Social connection benefits more than just the immune system. Socially integrated groups have longer and healthier lives and are less likely to develop hypertension. According to a skin-puncturing study, pals can help people sleep better and heal faster.

On the other hand, struggling friendships are important predictors of chronic illness. Moreover, in some circumstances, social isolation is a bigger risk of death than typical causes such as smoking and high cholesterol.

Much of this is due to the numerous connections and overlaps between mental and physical health. Donna Turnbull, community development manager for Volunteer Action Camden, a charity that helps other charities in north London, sees the links between various areas of health.

Friendship may not be better for your health than other sorts of strong social ties, such as steady, good, and reciprocal ones.

According to Saida Heshmati’s and her colleagues’ research, “Regardless of where these little acts of love come from, or what relationship they come from, the quality of those interactions is significant – meaning that you can receive care when you’re sick from a family member, but you can also receive it from a friend, and that still conveys love.”

But, the function of friendship in keeping us healthy has historically been overlooked and trivialized. Decades of scientific studies reveal that this is incorrect.

Friendship may be more protective than marriage or family in some instances. For example, one study based on data from 97 nations discovered that while valuing family and friends was associated with improved health and happiness overall, friendships were even more crucial to health and happiness in older persons.

Friendships of various kinds

While there appear to be some cross-cultural trends in friendship, the majority of the research has focused on wealthy and majority-white nations. As a result, less emphasis has been paid to the differences in friendship among other groups, such as the gay and disabled populations.

According to Heshmati, friendship is a voluntary sort of interdependence that changes through time, in which both individuals seek their social and emotional goals. Yet, societal expectations are likely to influence it, such as whether interactions should be more spontaneous or based on more organized rituals and obligations and whether loyalty and trust are more important than autonomy and personal growth.

Substantial differences do emerge in studies on friendship over the life period. According to Denworth, there is a U-curve regarding time spent with friends: friendships are crucial for developing adolescent identity, less so for middle-aged individuals, and rebound somewhat for the elderly.

Neuroscience research also provides substantial evidence for this. For example, numerous studies have employed functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to investigate brain activity patterns while participants engage with friends. According to the findings, it activates the social brain regions connected with skills such as understanding the viewpoints of others. It also appears to increase activity in the striatum, a reward-related region of the brain.

Researchers discovered that when individuals were given the option of winning or sharing money with a friend or a hated, indifferent, or unfamiliar peer, reward areas were most active when they chose a friend.

Berna Güroglu, a developmental neuroscientist at Leiden University in the Netherlands, argues that when winning prizes for a long-time best friend, “there’s definitely an increased reward sensitivity.”

It peaks between the ages of 15 and 16.” Heshmati refers to the socioemotional connection theory, which states that as people age and their perception of time changes, they become more selective in their social contacts.

The quality of our friendships is important, especially as we get older. Nonetheless, even casual connections can be beneficial throughout one’s life. Weak ties are more helpful in extending our access to information, whilst solid friendships give critical support.

A variety of friendships is also beneficial. Having a greater range of social contacts benefits our health and may even improve our ability to fight off colds.

According to Heshmati, weaker friendships are still worthwhile if people agree on their expectations. Therefore, if one friend anticipates weekly visits and the other wants a few WhatsApp interactions yearly, there is a glaring mismatch.

“You can have a lot of friends and still feel lonely,” Shakes adds of some friendships.

Fran Drescher, the sitcom star taking on Hollywood

Who is Fran Drescher? The woman taking on Hollywood!

The fire-and-brimstone characters that frequently lead unions in conflict with powerful corporations are rarely depicted as having a lot of Hollywood glitz.

The Screen Actors Guild (SAG), however, has always stood out in that regard. Ronald Reagan, a former US president best known at the time for appearing in corny western movies, formerly served as the union’s leader.

And Fran Drescher, the guild’s current leader, has garnered notice with a heated statement from her base in Los Angeles less than 24 hours into the guild’s battle against Hollywood’s streaming juggernauts.

She referred to companies like Netflix, Disney, and Paramount as “disgusting” and charged that they were “losing money left and right” while “giving their CEOs hundreds of millions of dollars.”

The speech, which soon gained notoriety, is representative of the larger labor rifts currently taking place around the globe. She charged that management ignored the “essential contributors that keep the machine running” in favor of “Wall Street and greed.”

Drescher’s complaints may be recognizable, but the 65-year-old’s ascent to union leadership is anything but conventional.

Fran Drescher was born in 1957 to a Jewish family in the Queens neighborhood of New York City.

She also met Peter Marc Jacobson as a student at the city’s Hillcrest High School, and they later got married in 1977 when she was just 21 years old.

She recounted in 2010 that the couple were “just kids and didn’t know who we truly were” when they got married. Together, we underwent a great deal. Nevertheless, he would quickly take over as her main creative partner.

Fran Drescher has paid her dues on the screen.

Her first break in Hollywood came from a small part in John Travolta’s blockbuster Saturday Night Fever.

She had a brief cameo appearance as a club dancer and asked the Hollywood star, “So, are you as good in bed as you are on the dance floor?”

Before gaining a co-starring position in the short-lived comedy Princesses, she quickly achieved popularity with a number of cinematic appearances, including the highly acclaimed This is Spinal Tap, where she played publicist Bobbi Flekman.

She rose to popularity, however, as the creator and star of the US sitcom The Nanny, in which she played Jewish fashionista Fran Fine, a nanny for a wealthy British family.

She received two Emmy nods and two Golden Globe nominations for the program, which she produced and co-wrote with Jacobsen. The program aired on the CBS network from 1993 to 1999.

He came out as gay after Drescher and Jacobsen’s divorce in 1999.

Although they kept working together creatively, they wrote the sitcom Happily Divorced, in which she played an actress coming to terms with the fact that her husband is gay.

Cancer survivor Drescher released a book called Cancer Schmancer in which she talked about her experience getting treated for the disease and the eight years of incorrect diagnoses that came before it. She subsequently established the same-named organization, which advocates for healthcare reform.

Fran Drescher has participated in politics throughout of her professional life. She decided against running to succeed Senator Hillary Clinton as senator for New York after endorsing her in the 2008 presidential election.

She also frequently captions pictures with statements like “Capitalism has become another word for Ruling Class Elite!” She has long expressed thoughts on the political left.

She identified herself a “anti-capitalist” in a 2017 interview with Vulture, adding that she was not “anti-making money,” but that it needed to be “calibrated within the spectrum of what’s a true value.”

She eventually started a campaign to lead the SAG as a result of her political activism. She prevailed in a contentious contest to lead the guild in 2021 over actor Matthew Modine.

The rivalry between the two, who each represented a different part of the union, grew so sour that Modine accused Drescher of circulating false information about him.

What We Know About ‘Dancing With the Stars’ 32

It’s official: we will return to the dance floor to watch which celebs participate in the 32nd season of Dancing With the Stars and battle for the coveted mirrorball trophy. Zendaya, Kim Kardashian, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Shangela are just a few of the past competitors. Which stars will shine bright as they shimmy their way to the top?

This fall, the 32nd season of Dancing With the Stars will air on television. Although a precise release date hasn’t been set yet, ABC revealed that on September 13, 2023, Good Morning America will reveal the entire cast along with, ideally, the premiere date

The cast for the previous season was revealed on September 8, 2022, and the premiere episode was made available on September 19. Based on the timeframe for season 31, we can probably anticipate that season 32 will debut in late September.

Where can I find Dancing With the Stars?

The most recent season of DWTS was exclusive to Disney+, but this time around, the reality competition series is (sort of) going back to its roots. In an interview with Deadline, Alisa Bowen, president of Disney+, disclosed the show was launched on the streaming service to attract a “new generation of fans.”

But the live Disney+ debut of season 32 of DWTS will also be shown on ABC. The next day, Hulu will start streaming the new season. We therefore have a few choices here!

Which celebs are joining season 32 cast?

On Wednesday, September 13, the whole cast of Dancing With the Stars season 32 will be revealed on Good Morning America, but we already know a few of the star-studded contestants that will be joining the cast. Charity Lawson from The Bachelorette will be dancing this season, the show’s official Instagram account said in a joint post.

Not only that, but another reality TV celebrity will spin toward the mirrorball trophy as well. Ariana Madix from Vanderpump Rules will also be a part of the DWTS cast for season 32, according to a humorous Instagram picture she shared with Derek Hough.

Oscar winner Mira Sorvino, who starred in Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, is thought to be joining the competition, according to reports. Her involvement has not been confirmed, but we’ll keep an eye out to see whether the rumors are accurate.

Who is judging DWTS season 32?

The show’s chief judge, Len Goodman, announced his retirement before to his passing in April 2023. According to a Variety story, Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli, and Derek Hough will sit at the judges’ bench once again for season 32

Who is hosting Dancing with the stars?

On August 21, a promo for the next season of DWTS was posted to the program’s official social media channels. In addition to Alfonso Ribeiro, Julianne Hough, a former professional dancer who is now a multifaceted sensation, will serve as the competition’s host. Alfonso will serve as the emcee on the dance floor while Julianne manages the Sky Box.

In the advertisement, the duo performed some sick routines to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Heads Will Roll,” and we are completely smitten. A few days later, a behind-the-scenes marketing video was also released.

Tyra Banks, who served as the franchise’s emcee for the last three seasons, informed TMZ that she will not be returning for season 32.

New York Fashion Week to be hosted by stars

A “serious project” is being introduced during New York Fashion Week by convicted con artist Anna Delvey and PR guru Kelly Cutrone.

According to Page Six, Delvey, 32, and Cutrone, 57, have teamed up to organize a fashion show for Monday, September 11. The show, which will feature up-and-coming designer Shao Yang, will take place at a studio on Canal Street. The purpose of the event, according to Cutrone and Delvey (née Sorokin), is to give emerging talent in the fashion business visibility.

Since being placed under house arrest in 2022, Delvey has been keeping busy in addition to her plans with Cutrone.

She started “The Anna Delvey Show” as a podcast in June on Spotify, with Julia Fox, Whitney Cummings, Emily Ratajkowski, and other guests.

In April 2019, Delvey was found guilty of defrauding socialites in Manhattan on four counts of theft-related services, three counts of grand larceny, and one count of attempted grand larceny. She received a term of four to twelve years in state prison, a fine of $24,000, and a need to pay nearly $199,000 in restitution.
