Hi friends! It’s me, Dawn. I understand where you’re coming from when it comes to getting ready and putting on makeup before I go out. As women in our 40s, 50s, and 60s, many still want to look and feel amazing, but spending hours in front of the mirror can feel overwhelming and sometimes tedious. We’re not looking to become makeup artists; we just want an easy routine that enhances our natural beauty and works for our busy lives. Sound familiar?
I’ve tried countless products and techniques and know what it’s like to feel lost in a sea of options. Many of us didn’t grow up with YouTube tutorials or access to professional makeup advice, so learning to adapt our routines can feel like a challenge. But here’s the good news: with the right tools and a simplified approach, you can create a polished, confident look without the hassle. Today, I’m sharing my favorite tips and must-have products that are perfect for mature skin and busy schedules. Let’s dive in!
1. Create the right setup with a good setting spray
Every good makeup routine for mature skin means focusing on hydration and longevity. The Milani Make It Last Original – Natural Finish Setting Spray is my game-changer. I use this before putting on any makeup or skin care products. This spray preps your skin, reduces the appearance of imperfections, and locks your makeup in place. This setting spray gives your skin a radiant, dewy finish without creasing or smudging. Then, after I finish putting on my makeup, I use the setting spray again to make my makeup last all day long.
I recommend the Freck FACE HACK Blur + Bond Setting Spray for a cleaner, alcohol-free setting spray option. It leaves your skin with a soft, cloud-like finish that blends seamlessly with your makeup.
2. Give your eyes a little lift
Our eyes can lose some of their definition as we age, but the right products can make them look youthful again. The L’Oréal Infallible 24H Fresh Wear Soft Matte Bronzer is one of my go-to products. Using an eyeshadow brush, I concentrate on the eyelids where the lashes would hit. And with whatever is left, I even it out around my eyelids.
Try the L’Oreal Paris CR Monos Eye Shadow in Mademoiselle for a softer look. I recommend putting it on the inner half of my eyelids, starting from the inner eye corner, to give my eyes a well-rested look. Its rich color payoff makes it easy to apply and blend, even if you’re not a makeup pro.
3. A little eyeliner to look finer
The essence Stay & Play Gel Eyeliner is a fantastic choice for vibrant, long-lasting color. Its gel-like formula glides on smoothly and won’t fade throughout the day. First, I get it on the pencil brush, starting at the bottom, outside corner, and going towards the center. When the brush falls off the curve of the eye, I’m done. I don’t go all the way from corner to corner. I do the same on the top, then give it a little smudge to blend. I suggest using a darker color as it gives you a little more. And at the eye corner, I flick it up a little bit more and give myself a little wing to lift the eyes up.
4. A touch of mascara speaks volumes
Your eye look isn’t complete without mascara, and the Babe Original 4 Real Mascara delivers length, volume, and lift without the heaviness. Take a look at its bristles. They are spread apart to give you the right amount on the lashes. The spikey ball at the end of the brush helps you separate the lashes without adding more on. It also has castor oil that encourages lash growth.
5. Put on your favorite lipstick
Lipstick is such an easy way to pull your look together. My favorite lipstick is L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Moisturizing Lipstick. It is perfect for mature lips. Infused with argan oil and vitamin E, this lipstick hydrates while providing a rich, long-lasting color.
Keep It Simple
The most important thing to remember is that makeup should enhance your natural beauty and make you feel good about yourself. It doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming. Start with these essentials, and enjoy the process of rediscovering your glow.
