Elton Ilirjani: Making History as the First Genderless Model at Seoul Fashion Week

Seoul Fashion Week 2023 saw history being made as the first genderless model walked the runway for a South Korean brand, MMAM. Elton Ilirjani, a social media influencer, LGBTQIIA+ activist and the founder of Dignity Global Foundation, took to the runway and closed the show on the first day of Seoul Fashion Week. 

Elton’s outfit was a long black coat that was in the function of a raincoat and dress. The boots were amazing, tight, high, and comfortable for a cold and rainy day. This was Elton’s first walk for Seoul Fashion Week, and he was honored to be a genderless model on the international stage, bringing the important movement to visibility in South Korea.

Elton Ilirjani is a social media phenomenon, fashion influencer, corporate CEO, and LGBTQIIA+ activist from Albania. He is dedicated to speaking up for equality, human rights, and fairness for other LGBTQ+ individuals throughout America and the world. Elton founded the Dignity Global Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on protecting human and civil rights for women and the LGBTQIIA+ community in the workplace. In addition, he created the “Employment Equality Index” for the LGBTQIIA+ community, which ranks private companies and public institutions by their adherence to human and civil rights in the workplace in the western Balkans countries.

Elton has built a successful career over the past decades as the founder and director of The HeadHunter Group, which has offices in 15 countries globally. As an activist, he also spearheaded two transgender acceptance campaigns, the “Lipstick Movement” and the “Nobody is Straight” movement for LGBTQIIA+ inclusivity. In addition, Elton made history as the first publicly gay man in Albania who made headlines when they came out of the closet to the media in 2006. Elton’s style, interviews, and runway shows have been featured in Forbes, V Magazine, LA Weekly, and Miami Living Magazine.

The iconic fashionista is known for his eccentric and eclectic personality, as well as eclectic fashion sense. Elton is known throughout the New York City fashion scene and has walked for some of the most cutting-edge fashion designers at New York Fashion Week. As a genderless model, Elton has also walked for internationally-acclaimed fashion brands, like a scene-stealing protest at Art Basel Miami Beach and BESFXXK, a Seoul fashion brand. Most recently for Seoul Fashion Week 2023.

On the importance of being a genderless model on the runway:

“This is the future of modeling,” said Ilirjani. “Modeling world will soon change drastically. The fashion runway is no longer old-fashioned, discriminatory, or objectifying women. Genderless modeling represents everyone. It’s synonymous with the arts and creativity and is more easily absorbed by the general public.”

Elton dedicates his recent show to his Pomeranian dog, Mona, whom the model missed while in Seoul. Elton has three other shows at Seoul Fashion Week for SEOKWOON YON, GREEDILOUS, and MAISON NICA.
